 Update 2/27: Due to the calls that were made last week, Faheem received a mattress and an indigent hygiene kit. However, he still has not received any bedclothes or his own clothes, appropriate medical attention, food, or his tablet. Please continue to make calls! The script has been updated below.

2/24/22: Abu Faheem Shabazz (s/n Jerry Smith #129911) is facing severe retaliation for his work defending prisoners’ rights and speaking out against the corruption and brutality of the staff and administration at Westville CF! Faheem has been a leader of political education study groups for the past two years, and has made numerous reports about conditions at Westville CF since arriving there in 2019.

He has been repeatedly transferred from unit to unit during the past several months, and each time his property (food, clothing, and hygiene) are stolen by guards. He has been forced to sleep on a cold steel box with no mattress for the past two weeks, and hasn’t been allowed to order any clothes, soap or toothpaste during that time either. He can’t order from commissary, because the guards will steal whatever he orders. Faheem also does not have a tablet (for calls and inmate messaging) despite ordering one and spending $250 over 7 months ago. Most importantly, guards are constantly harassing and attacking him in groups of two or more, trying to get him to fight them so that they can give him another case.

Faheem has been in adult prisons since he was 14 years old, on a trumped up attempted murder charge out of Gary, IN. He was released at the age of 32 in 2018, and reincarcerated on technical parole violations in 2019. He has now been denied parole 3 times since being reincarcerated, despite having completed at least a half dozen programs, including the Recovering While Incarcerated program which is supposed to earn one a sentence modification. Faheem has serious health issues, including severe seizures and major back issues resulting from having fallen off a top bunk that he was illegally forced to sleep on and having a seizure several years ago at Wabash Valley CF.

Now, because he knows how corrupt the Westville CF staff and administration are, and they know that he knows, he is being attacked and harassed, deprived of medical attention, and denied access to the basic necessities for survival like enough food, clothes, and hygiene.

Please call Westville CF Warden Galipeau and the IDOC Central Office and demand that Faheem’s property be returned to him, that he be given the medical attention he needs, and that the harassment and attacks by guards cease immediately!

Angaza Iman Bahar Petition for Habeas Corpus & Memorandum of Law Regarding Illegal Detention

Angaza Iman Bahar (aka Jimmy Jones) is currently being illegally detained by the Indiana DOC and Indiana Parole Board at Indiana State Prison after the Parole Board illegally switched the order of his consecutive sentences after arresting him on a warrant for technical parole violations, so that he is now effectively in custody on the longer of his two sentences from his 1994 conviction, which he had already completed and been discharged from in 2020. Angaza has filed a habeas corpus petition in the Laporte County court, but the court is refusing to acknowledge it, and he is facing serious retaliation at ISP for challenging the Parole Board’s impunity.

Urgent Action Alert: Shaka Shakur Has Been Brutally Beaten– Make Calls Now!

 December 31st, 2021

Dear supporters of Shaka,
 
Shaka Shakur was abruptly transferred this past week by the Virginia Department of Corrections (VDOC) from the Green Rock Correctional Center to a different prison in Virginia, the River North Correctional Center. We do not yet know why nor has Shaka been able to communicate via email or prison calls with the outside world for the past week. Shaka’s VDOC number is #1996207.

According to an eyewitness report by a prisoner at River North who saw Shaka shortly after his arrival to the facility, Shaka was severely bloodied all over his body and had serious head wounds. Shaka did not receive appropriate medical care, but was instead given a shower and a tetanus shot. Shaka has since been isolated, deprived of access to calls and emails in contrast to some of the other prisoners like this eyewitness who called Shaka’s family to report the abuse.
 
We are asking all supporters of Shaka to make calls ASAP to the Watch Commander at River North Correctional Center. Additionally, calls should be made to Director Harold Clarke of the VDOC. Here is your script:
 
“I am a friend of Shaka Shakur #1996207. His family received a credible report from an eyewitness who saw Shaka shortly after he was transferred to the River North Correctional Center. This eyewitness informed Shaka’s family that Shaka had been severely beaten and was bloodied all over, including serious wounds to his head. Shaka reportedly did not receive appropriate medical care and has instead been isolated ever since, deprived of access to calls and emails with the outside world. We are demanding that prison officials take action immediately, guaranteeing appropriate medical care for Shaka and allowing him to communicate with family and supporters. We also demand that this abuse be professionally documented and that responsible VDOC staff be punished.”

URGENT Phone & Email Zap: Open the Windows and Get Hygiene Supplies to Pendleton

 IDOC Watch recently heard from a comrade about abusive conditions at Pendleton Correctional Facility. His cell block does not have working ventilation and the windows are all closed, making it impossible to breathe. The officials are also withholding soap and laundry supplies. Given the brutal heat and humidity of Indiana summers, these are unlivable conditions. As our comrade said, "They treat animals in the zoo better than us!!!"

IDOC Watch is calling for an immediate phone and email zap demanding that Pendleton officials open the windows, fix the ventilation, and provide inmates with hygiene supplies. Please call and email the following officials. A sample script is provided below.
