Condemning Socialism
On January 6, 2021 America sat back and watched as the capital building was breeched and our elected leaders threatened. Reactionary forces including Christian Fascists and Racist Neo-Nazis stormed the capital in an attempt to overthrow the democratic election of the people, in which Joe Biden rightfully won the presidency. This insurrection was lead by the sitting president and select members of the Senate and House who share fascist, authoritarian, theocratic, and anti-democratic tendencies. In the following year, a number of the low-level street thugs that took orders from the former president were saddled with the consequences of their actions; some only being fired from their jobs and others receiving criminal sentences with prison time.On February 2 ,2023 all of the elected Republicans in Congress in addition to members of the Democratic Party voted to condemn socialism. They did not condemn fascism, racism, or bigotry. They did not condemn lies on media outlets. They did not condemn the aggressive nature of police. They voted to condemn a form of government that believes in a fuller, more robust, democratic process and a more egalitarian system overall.In a time when the U.S. is supporting a fascist Ukraine, school boards are removing books, and the LGBTQ community is becoming increasingly more alienated. In a time when the Supreme Court is ripping away women's rights from us, our congress voted to condemn Socialism.Elections remain viable and important, but a mass movement of workers, the hungry, and the houseless taking to the streets is necessary. In spite of the government voting to condemn socialism, the people of this country are still feeling the need for a better system.
